In the second half of August, the Institute of South and Central Asia hosted the Bengali Summer Schoolfor a group of dedicated students from across Europe, the USA, and India. A joint venture with universities in Heidelberg and Warsaw, the summer school offered not just the language drill but also an introduction into Bengali cuisine with palatable bites of বেগুন ভাজাandখিচুড়ি, fun short stories by বনফুল, poems of জীবনানন্দ দাশand of course the greatest of all – রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর.
