As is well-known pilgrimages are one of the main religious activities in the Tibetan world. As soon as the Chinese government relaxed its policies on religion in the 1980s\, pilgri mages that had been banned during several decades resumed on a massive sca le. During many fieldworks conducted along these years\, I was able to obs erve the evolution of several pilgrimages\, focusing my research on circum ambulations of sacred mountains.
\nNowadays\, this tradition is under going several processes: modernization\, sinization\, buddhicization\, fol klorization\, which have a very strong impact on the pilgrim’s beliefs and behavior as well as on the religious landscape and ultimately question th e fate of the pilgrimages themselves.
\nThe traditional circumambulat ion around Amnye Machen mountain\, in Amdo\, is one of the pilgrimages und er threat. In comparison with my previous observations in 1990 and 1992\, I could already witness in 2002 the beginning of such mutations. With the completion of a road some years ago\, the pilgrimage that I did in the Sum mer 2018 turned out to be so different from the previous ones that the ver y question of “do we have to rethink Tibetan pilgrimage?” is raised.
\nIn this communication based on textual sources and observations\, I will describe the recent developments affecting this essential religious pract ice among Tibetans.

During my lecture I will try to present a short history of some of the Bengali minor religious communities and their ideas. Not only the names of those groups like Bauls\, Sahebdhani\, Kartabhaja are very pa rticular and surrounded by an aura of mystery and secret\, so are their be liefs. Who were the members of those communities so highly condemned in th e past days and often praised during our times? Why did some of those grou ps survived and even flourished in XX century and why many of them vanishe d completely? Many of them are on one side an important part of Bengal’s c ultural map\, moreover\, they are often used as symbols of national identi ty. On the other side many of them still face persecution. The lecture wil l be supported by some videos of Bauls performing their beautiful and high ly esoteric songs.

Ústav Asijských studií FF UK srdečně zve na dvě mimořádné přednášky Heleen De Jonckheere

The lectures introduce students to Ja ina philosophy within its socio-historical and socio-religious contexts. I n view of the soteriological goal of breaking the cycle of transmigration\ , Jaina thinkers established a distinct philosophical system that was char acterized by ontological dualism\, epistemological perspectivism and ethic s of non-violence. The lectures will detail these aspects of Jaina philoso phy and frame them within the Jaina ‚mythological‘ understanding of the un iverse and of time. Special attention will be given to the strategies by w hich Jaina thinkers both related to and distanced themselves from other In dian traditions. The aim of both lectures is to demonstrate that Jaina tho ught made important contributions to the fields of ethics\, ontology and e pistemology\, but nevertheless\, as a religio-philosophical system\, was s trongly informed by a focus on humanity and ethical concerns.

Heleen De Jonckheere has a background in Indology ( Bachelor and Master) and is currently finishing a PhD degree at Ghent Univ ersity on a Jaina textual tradition by the title of Dharmaparīkṣā . Her research interests include Jaina religion\, puranic-epic literature\ , and translation studies\, next to histories of Indian traditions in gene ral.

Přední čeští indonésisté představí v rámci projektu CRP MŠMT ČR tři oblasti sociokulturního života současné Indonésie\, na kterých lze deklar ovat dynamické procesy změn v této nejlidnatější zemi jihovýchodní Asie. P rvním tématem bude vývoj svatebního obřadu u etnika Toradžů z ostrova Sula wesi\, který představí Dr. Michaela Budiman. Obsahem její přednášky bude s třet autochtonních prvků s indonéskou modernitou\, ať už žitou nebo deklar ovanou. Druhou přednášku přednese Dr. Tomáš Petrů a představí dynamiku výv oje islámu v Indonésii. Na konkrétních příkladech přiblíží změny a procesy \, kterými toto náboženství v posledních letech v Indonésii\, nejlidnatějš í islámské zemi světa\, prochází. Třetí přednáška bude zaměřena na problem atiku tradičních přírodních komodit a jejich využití v moderním globalizov aném světě a přednese ji Dr. Ondřej Pokorný. Zaměří se především na nelegá lní ochod s přírodninami a na socioekonomické aspekty s tím spojené.

Komparace tradičních a moderních toradžských svateb

Ind onéské etnikum Toradžů\, obývající jedenáctý největší ostrov světa\, je zn ámé především svými funerálními rituály\, nicméně i jejich svatby jsou nes mírně pozoruhodným synkretickým fenoménem. Moderní toradžské svatby obsahu jí jak prvky autochtonního toradžského náboženství Aluk Todolo\, tak eleme nty zvykového práva adat. Dá se v nich však nalézt i vliv různých křesťans kých denominací\, které zásadním způsobem formují nejen podobu všech soudo bých rituálů\, ale i celé společnosti. Prezentace bude založena na rozhovo rech s jedním z posledních znalců původního náboženství Aluk Todolo panem Tato’ Dena’. Hlavními tématy budou namlouvání\, potenciální důvody k odmít nutí ženicha\, výběr „vhodného“ partnera\, samotná svatba\, postmaritální rezidence a rozvod v dřívějších dobách. Zaměří se také na roli malajských pantunů při namlouvání a existenci dohodnutých sňatků. Na závěr bude násle dovat popis současné toradžské svatby\, která je na rozdíl od původních sň atků poměrně komplikovaná. Skládá se totiž vždy ze tří částí – náboženský obřad v kostele vedený knězem\, občanský sňatek\, který zajišťuje státní ú ředník (obřad se zpravidla také koná v kostele) a neformální oslava za úča sti stovek až tisíců hostů\, která velmi připomíná současné toradžské pohř by.

Islám v Indonés ii mezi akulturací a intolerancí – hledání nového středu

Indonésie byla dlouho dávána za vzor majoritně-muslimské země\, kde tradičně převládala umírněná forma islámu a náboženská toleranc e. Politická transformace na konci minulého tisíciletí spojená s pádem dlo uholetého autoritářského režimu generála Suharta a vytrvalý saúdský export ortodoxního islámu do souostroví ovšem indonéskou společnost zásadně prom ěnily. Krom toho se náboženství silně zpolitizovalo a zároveň v indonéském islámu – který má mnoho podob – začal dominovat konzervativní trend\, jen ž je příznačný svou intolerancí vůči náboženským\, etnickým a sexuálním me nšinám. Nábožensky konzervativní proud pak v uplynulé dekádě našel spojenc e mezi pravicovými populisty\, což vedlo k vytvoření nového trendu – „toxi ckého“ islámského populismu. V reakci na polarizaci společnosti vyvolané t ímto fenoménem se indonéská vláda vůči islámskému extremismu začala razant něji vymezovat. Jisté kruhy toto vítají s tím\, že je to „pět minut po dva nácté“\, zatímco jiné upozorňují na fakt\, že se tak děje na úkor lidských práv a svobod. Současně je nucena našlapovat opatrně\, aby se nedotkla se ntimentů muslimské většiny. Dynamika vývoje v oblasti politiky vs. nábožen ství v Indonésii je tak velmi složitá a naznačuje komplikovaný vývoj i do budoucna.

Indonésie a problematika „Wildlife Crime“ a „Bushmeat“: tradiční způsoby užívání přírodních komodit v global izovaném světě

Obyvatelé Indonésie a celé jihových odní Asie byli od nepaměti zvyklí využívat okolní přírodu jako zdroj své p rimární i sekundární obživy. Také v tradičním lokálním léčitelství bylo za potřebí zvířecích artefaktů nebo rostlinných produktů. S rozvojem kultur a vznikem dálkového obchodu mezi Východní Asií a Evropou se objevil fenomén poptávky vzdálených regionů po přírodninách\, kterým byly přisuzovány mag ické vlastnosti a které tak byly ve svém přirozeném prostředí poprvé vysta veny tlakům ohrožujícím jejich populace. Největší tlak přicházel z Číny\, jejíž majoritní entity si zvykly užívat pro svou léčbu a svůj jídelníček s tále více ingrediencí pocházejících z jihovýchodní Asie – žraločí ploutve\ , vlaštovčí hnízda\, tygří penisy\, mořské okurky\, šupiny luskounů nebo p řírodní pryskyřice tropických stromů tvoří jen část z celé škály poptávaný ch přírodnin. Ochuzování biodiverzity a exploatace přírodních zdrojů má sa mozřejmě vliv i na zvyklosti místních domorodců\, kteří musejí přizpůsobit svůj jídelníček\, zvyky a tím de facto pozměnit autochtonní rysy svých vl astních kultur.

Jihokorejský prozaik Pak Mingju (nar. 1968) se svými absurdn ími\, lehce filosofickými\, fantaskními a skvěle napsanými texty zabydlel v posledním desetiletí mezi elitou světových spisovatelů. Už první sbírka povídek Castella vyvolala senzaci a nadšení čtenářů napříč světadíly i gen eracemi\, podobný úspěch měly také následující novely a romány. V deseti p ovídkách Castelly bloumáme reálným světem\, ovšem s nadstandardní nabídkou : zavíráme dobro a zlo do zuřivé ledničky\, cestujeme po světě bez omezení na kachních šlapadlech\, do vesmíru nás vystřelí letadélko na gumičce\, p ři nadměrném provozování onlinových her se staneme roztomilým mývalem. O v lastní bezvýznamnosti čtenáře poučí povolání pušmena\, ale i soužití ve st ísněném prostoru. Kdo je příliš spokojený se stavem zeměkoule\, pochopí\, že je třeba počítat s útokem krakatic nebo s UFO vyslaných korporáty. Na d ruhé straně máme vždycky možnost stát se predátorem a vydělit se z davu po nižovaných. Pro čtení Pak Mingjua nemusí být člověk vzdělaný\, natož rozum ět korejským reáliím. Není ani nutné pokoušet se přečíst všechny vrstvy je ho textů\, složitě nad nimi spekulovat nebo probouzet vlastní špatné sociá lní svědomí. Pak Mingju je mezi korejskými postmodernisty fenomén. Umí psá t a zaujmout\, protože má výraznou schopnost jak potěšit\, tak i šokovat.< /p>\n

In the last twenty years\, the concept of converbs has been slowly gaining traction and recognition among the wider linguistic communi ty. The term converb is being used in place of several other older terms s uch as gerunds\, deepričastie\, adverbial participle\, etc. There have bee n also various attempts to delimit the phenomenon\, e.g. Haspelmath 1995\, Ross 2016\, that\, however\, do not agree on all aspects of the definitio n. Broadly speaking\, converbs can be understood as adverbial verbal forms \, though their actual function can vary both across languages and across constructions. We would like to discuss the following issues:

– Co nverbs as dependent adverbial form or a device for clause chaining?
\n– Coordination vs subordination (co-subordination?)
\n– Converbs on the margins (non-prototypical cases of converb usage)
\n– Use of con verbs in mono-clausal multiverbal constructions (MMC)
\n– Is the noti on of converbs cross-linguistically a useful label?

Spanning in its most extensive imagination from the eastern coast of Africa towards the western coast of the Americas\, the Indo-Pacific is a geopolitical concept in the making. While its discursive continuities can be traced to interwar Germa ny\, the contemporary notion of Indo-Pacific is most often connected with Indo-Japanese strategic deliberations followed by the speech by the Japane se prime minister Shinzo Abe in the Parliament of India in 2007 when he fa mously defined it as the confluence of two seas. From a core concern with the freedom of navigation to a more solid security arrangements like the Q UAD and its extensions\, the idea of Indo-Pacific seems to gradually attai n more material contours. The United States‘ Pacific Command was renamed I ndo-Pacific Command in 2018. Since then\, four European countries as well as the EU have formulated strategic policy papers towards the region.

This conference will bring together experts from the fields of Politi cal Science\, Security Studies and South Asian Studies to look from differ ent angles at what is increasingly becoming the crucible of geopolitics.\n

Language contact has long been acknowledged to be a major factor in the development of languages. It is of particular importance for the g roup of languages traditionally labeled as Altaic\, whose speakers have sh ared\, and migrated across\, vast areas of Eurasia for centuries\, influen cing each other\, as well as coming into contact with vastly typologically different languages. Our workshop aims to bring together researchers in c omparative linguistics\, typology\, and sociolinguistics to share and disc uss their approaches to the Altaic language area with special focus on the contact phenomena.

In India\ , people are compartmentalized into mutually exclusive groups called caste s\, and these castes are organized in a graded hierarchy based on notions of ritual purity and pollution. While those castes which are considered to be of pure and high status had an overarching control over people belongi ng to all other communities as they had an absolute authority over the pro ductive resources. The communities at the top of the ladder were considere d to be ritual purists and were considered to be the people eligible to co ntrol land and water resources\, the relative un-freedom of the communitie s increase as we move down the social order\, and those at the bottom were treated as ‘untouchable’. Therefore\, the caste system operated as the st ate in the pre-colonial society.

The advent of the colonial state – with an external source of power – juridical\, military and administrati ve powers – created a situation where the STATE was unrelated to the ideol ogy of ritual purity and pollution and a set of CASTES. This created a soc io-historical and political opportunity for every caste to approach the co lonial government independently\, as the authority was separated from the cultural authority of caste. While there was no individual rights and peop le’s rights\, responsibilities\, privileges and denials were determined by the castes system\, the emergence of a modern state created the space for individual citizenship rights. Nevertheless\, their access to state was d etermined by their relative position in the local socio-cultural economic and political hierarchy. As a result\, people’s aspiration towards the sta te\, and aspiration for right to equality was determined by the set of rig hts they were denied by the caste system. Therefore\, the political aspira tions of the non-brahmin ‘upper’ castes are different from the political a spirations of the ‘lower’ shudra castes\, service castes\, and that of the Dalits. This had varying implications on the rights-based consolidation o f political interests as the demands for rights becomes more and more spec ific as we go down the social ladder. In other words\, this lead to the is olation of the victims\, while other sections who are part of the problem in the graded hierarchy can continue to remain indifferent. Thus\, this pr esentation would shed light on the Dalit’s fight for social justice and eq uality and their participation in electoral democracy.

	Doc. PhDr. Luboš Bělka\, CSc.\, religionista se zaměřením na tibetský buddhismus\, přednáší na Ústav u religionistiky FF MU. Zabývá se studiem obnovy buddhismu v sibiřském Bur jatsku na přelomu 20. a 21. století\, jakož i dějinami československého „o bjevování“ Mongolska a Tibetu v padesátých letech 20. století. Věnuje se t éž vizuálním dějinám tibetského buddhismu.
	Mgr. Zuzana Ku bovčáková M.A.\, Ph.D. (Seminář japonských studií\, FF MU) sa ven uje dejinám japonských náboženských tradícií\, menovite ranému a stredovek ému šintó a buddhizmu\, s dôrazom na zenový buddhizmus školy Sótó a prekla dom zenového majstra Dógena z japončiny. V rámci profesnej praxe pôsobila na Inštitúte pre juhovýchodnú Áziu\, tibetológiu a buddhológiu Viedenskej univerzity a na Nanzanskej univerzite v japonskej Nagoji. Taktiež absolvov ala výcviky v kláštoroch v Upaya Zen Center v Novom Mexiku\, Tassajara Zen Center\, Green Gulch Zen Center a San Francisco Zen Center v americkej Ka lifornii.
	Mgr. Markéta Hánová\, Ph.D. absolvoval a obor Japanologie na FF UK v Praze\, kde získala také doktorát v oboru dě jin umění. V Národní galerii Praha pracovala v letech 1998⁠–⁠2000 jako odb orná lektorka\, od roku 2000 jako kurátorka japonských sbírek a od roku 20 12 působí ve funkci ředitelky Sbírky asijského umění Národní galerie Praha . Věnuje se dějinám a teorii japonské malby a grafiky\, historii sběratels tví a výstav japonského umění v Evropě (Japonské dřevořezy a jejich sb ěratelé v českých zemích\, 2019)\, dialogu evropského a japonského um ění včetně fenoménu japonismu (Japonismus v českém umění\, 2014).
< /td>\n	Toda Seizan is the head priest of Daijiin\, Dai tokuji Temple. He is a graduate of Doshisha University. After working in an accounting firm\, he became a Buddhist monk and spent five and a half y ears in training at Tenryūji and Daitokuji temples. He has taught Zen medi tation and performed sutra chanting in France and Germany. Many visitors f rom overseas have come to him to learn Zen meditation\, sutra chanting and the art of tea ceremony.
