Seventy languages are taught at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, which is unique not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Europe. On 30 September, the faculty platform Library of Languages organizes the European Day of Languages which focuses this year on supressed languages.

The summer school held at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, ended on 19 August bringing to a close a month of intensive Czech language study. The programme featured not only regular Czech language classes but also workshops, lectures, day trips and other events highlighting Czech history, arts, and culture. In short, an unforgettable experience.

Over the past four years, the Faculty of Arts, Charles University has participated in European Economic Area (EEA) grant projects which have given dozens of our students and employees the opportunity to travel for work or study in Norway and Iceland. As the last two mobility projects of this type will be coming to an end in August, we would like to offer the following overview of their realization. 

Did you know that it is possible to sleep overnight within the Carolinum complex? Charles University offers accommodation in its buildings to university guests (including esteemed recpients of honorary degrees). The most representative accommodation facility is known as Opitz House, just a few steps from the Old Town Square.

The Czech Institute of Egyptology at CU FA (CIE) organises in collaboration with the International Committee for Egyptian and Sudan Archaeological Museums and Collections (CIPEG) and ICOM a half-day symposium to present to aninternational group of curators of Egyptological museum collections an overview and update on recent research and excavations in Egypt.

In the spring of 2022, an archaeological team from the Czech Institute of Egyptology at CU FA discovered and carefully documented the tomb of an ancient Egyptian dignitary named Wahibre-mery-Neith during fieldwork in Abusir, Egypt. Although it was looted in antiquity, the site has provided valuable information.

Few experts in the social sciences have influenced their field as much as the former lecturer of CU FA, Leopold Pospíšil. The Yale professor, who passed away last year at the age of 98, was a legend in anthropology and the anthropology of law. His memoir, <i>Adventures in the "Stone Age" – A New Guinea Diary</i>, is essential for anyone interested in the field.

A free, history-based game tells the story that relates to the dramatic events connected to the closing of Czech universities on 17 November 1939. The game was created by Vít Šisler from Charles Games and the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship at CU FA along with Pavel Voves, director of public-benefit corporation Živá Paměť which has provided authentic testimonies of survivors.
