The Importance of Promoting Rare and Endangered Languages

Seventy languages are taught at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, which is unique not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Europe. On 30 September, the faculty platform Library of Languages organizes the European Day of Languages which focuses this year on supressed languages.

65th Summer School of Slavonic Studies Wrapped up

The summer school held at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, ended on 19 August bringing to a close a month of intensive Czech language study. The programme featured not only regular Czech language classes but also workshops, lectures, day trips and other events highlighting Czech history, arts, and culture. EEA grants allow Czech students and academics to work and study in otherwise expensive destinations

International Symposium Presents Recent Czech Excavations in Egypt

Egyptologists from CU FA Discovered Tomb of Mercenary Commander

In the spring of 2022, an archaeological team from the Czech Institute of Egyptology at CU FA discovered and carefully documented the tomb of an ancient Egyptian dignitary named Wahibre-mery-Neith during fieldwork in Abusir, Egypt. Although it was looted in antiquity, the site has provided valuable information.

Leopold Pospíšil’s Memoir Published

Few experts in the social sciences have influenced their field as much as the former lecturer of CU FA, Leopold Pospíšil. The Yale professor, who passed away last year at the age of 98, was a legend in anthropology and the anthropology of law. His memoir, <i>Adventures in the "Stone Age" – A New Guinea Diary</i>, is essential for anyone interested in the field.

Train to Sachsenhausen: New Charles Games Release Offers Alternative Endings

A free, history-based game tells the story that relates to the dramatic events connected to the closing of Czech universities on 17 November 1939. The game was created by Vít Šisler from Charles Games and the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship at CU FA along with Pavel Voves, director of public-benefit corporation Živá Paměť which has provided authentic testimonies of survivors.
